Had a Grandfather, father, son team on board 3 days ago for what turned out to be a really tough day to be fishing. I spoke with Ron on the phone the night before and let him know we were up against some steep odds. He has been out with me a lot and told me, "You know what, we catch 100 or we catch 5 I don't care, I just want to have a day where my son can fish with his. Mr. Ron is a three time repeat customer and love hearing stories from him about fishing the last 40 years in this area. I tells me about Blackie Campo and the days when you could take a boat right across the channel and fill the boat. I never had the pleasure of meeting Blackie, but from what I hear in stories he was a great guy. But back to the fishing. We went straight up deep into the marsh to try and get out of the 20-25mph SW wind. Tide was dead low and never rose. We caught fish at each little redfish spot, but it would only be one or two and we would have to move. The guys got to talk and have fun and fish in calm water without running all over the place trying to find fish with the big motor. And that's what it was about, them spending quality time on the water. At the end of the day we had plenty of fish for them to take home and Mr. Ron told me, "Look, my father in law took me fishing for the last 40 years around here I know how fishing goes. And today I got everything I wanted." He even booked another trip in October. I am looking forward to getting back out there with him. His Son and Grandson were great to fish with. Nick his grandson is a very positive well mannered kid, gives his shrimp pep talks. Good people and can't wait to hit the marsh with them in the fall.
