Had some multiple repeat customers down to fish with me today for what turned out to be an absolute blast. They were lurking in the dark waiting for me at my dock when I showed up at 4:25am. After filling the bait wells with frisky "Campo's catch fish or die trying" live shrimp and the gas tank with "Campo's you need this to run combustion engines" petrol we headed south. Dark run through the maze of oyster poles and we were out in open water. We made a stop at the edge of Eloi to fine shrimp jumping, birds diving, and trout flying into the air eating up! It was awesome way to start the morning. I switched the guys to Hybrid Flurries and DOAs to save bait and we were putting nice 14-18" trout in the boat one after another. At about 40 fish they started to get small. Then like a switch they were all small... Oh well good start anyways. Couple storms rolling in on us and we decided to try to find another rig with big fish. Was pulling up to the spot with the hook in my hand ready to set anchor and Captain Devin came over the radio on triples of thick keeper fish. I was not far away and sounded like game on so we throttled down to get out of the rain and came to join the party. It was triples and QUADS until number 125 hit the ice. Talk about mayhem! I think the words slaughter and massacre were thrown around a couple times. You could have caught these fish on topwater, they were smacking the cork. Awesome time, I joined in and had a blast, shaking my head with the trout, when those big yellow mouths came up trying to spit the hook. These guys did this last year too with me, they are just luck charms. And to top it all off on the way in we stopped for a couple reds but with the low tide that was not in the cards. Did get Glenn his first ever redfish and Brian caught a really nice one. We had another trick to try though so we pulled the plug on the redfish and motored north. Pulled up the the "top secret" alligator gar hole and got ready for giant fish heart pounding aerial action! And sho nuff was not a problem to get it. Glenn was first to strike on about a 25-30lber we put in the boat then promptly put into another boat that wanted to eat him. But the fish of the day came for Brian in the form of a 70-80lb MONSTER! Thing jumped right at the boat twice. Had to wrastle him into the bear hug style. I love catching these fish its incredible when they jump, shaking their head. I took the biggun to a Church on St. Claude and they are using it for a feed the homeless BBQ/fish fry they had coming up. Great day on the water with guys that are always a pleasure to fish with and seem to have lucky rabbits foots, because conditions are always perfect when they show up to fish.
