Had a return group down to fish with me Saturday and Sunday that fished with me last year around this time. We fished completely different conditions with a strong wind Saturday and a nice semi-calm Sunday. Both days were a lot of fun, Scott and Brian brought a couple different fishing partners this round in the form of another Brian and Mr. Steve. Mr.Steve was celebrating the big 6-0 on his birthday the second day and the fish seemed to know it.

Day 1; Started out with high hopes despite the wind and headed out the the long rocks. Had to take shelter behind them as big old muddy white caps where rolling in. Did not stop yankee Brian from hooking up on a big'ol 25-30lb bull red on his first couple casts. BIG DOG. Made for an awesome fight and a great start for what turned out to be a hard day of fishing. We made it happen though. Tucked back into the marsh near Lake Robin and started working over the slot reds. Ended up with 16 keeper reds, 5 sheephead, 2 drum, and a flounder. And a smattering of trout we hooked as bycatch.

Day 2; Wind layed guys were pumped and so was I. Headed straight out to the rigs and made 3 stops before we hit the mark. Had to tight line deep and feel that light thump, but once we dialed it in we were on! Guys were throwing trout in the boat one after another with doubles and triples. They were outfishing me in no time after they picked up the tactic. Number 50 trout hit the ice about the time a muddy rip line ran us over and bite shut down. No worries the redfish rigs were close and wanted to get the guys on a big line stretcher. I guess since it was Steve's birthday he was the star of the show. Catching one right after another. Scott pulled up a big sow trout for a nice surpirse, then yankee Brian hooked what was the big fish of the trip in the form of a 40lb monster bullred. Thing was OLD. Great fight ran peeling drag and we chased it with the trolling motor. Video, pics, high five all around and the beast was released. With 50 trout and our limit of eating size bulls it was time to work on the other half of those trout. I motored back inside and was about to pull up and take a look at a spot and heard Harry and Jacques on the radio. They were on trout! perfect... We pulled up and dropped the hammer on them. Rebel Brian cranked up the jams on his little handheld speakers while we pulled triples and quads over the gunnel. Bite died out just as number 100 hit the ice. We fish a little inside and picked up a couple random bonus flounder then took it to the house. Happy the fish gods gave us one out of 2 days with a lot of outside options.
