Dodge the storms, catch the trout.

Had a another return customer group with me today, Team Rosie's! This all star fishing team from the north shore is comprised to Jerry - the mouth, Jen - the fairest, Deiter - the large, Tom - the red, and Bo - the young. Together they always seem to massacre the fish in my boat. Today was no different. Started out slow. Catfish... Mixed trout...

But we motored on and the seas laid down as the day went on. We ended up deep in the Sound catching bigguns. Trout, sharks, mackerel, everything out there was big. Twice had trout smashed by sharks on the way to the boat. Caught the biggest spanish I have ever seen... One shark was so big he did not bite the 3lb trout he took it whole... hook, line, and sinker right at the side of the boat. Did not make our job easy out there but ended up filling one 94q cooler and 1/2 of another with beautiful fat specks, a couple prize macks, a smattering of about 5 sheepies, and a flounder. All fish caught on live shrimp, 1/2 oz carolina rig for tide.

mid afternoon guys had a great time and it was time to head to the barn. Only problem was the perfect afternoon thunderstorm had Biloxi Marsh to Fortuna blocked out in lightning. We just had to wait it out at the long rocks then pick our window and shoot through Eloi. I'll tell you what I was really happy to have my Sirius Weather radar overlay on my Lowrance today. Put the guys back to the dock without hitting any of that nasty storm, and I got to say it helped a lot in making me wait.

(Lightning tip of the day, don't run under/around it, if in doubt wait it out. Stay near semi open water so you can run in more directions if you need to and don't trap yourself in small bayou/canals with no way to escape)
